Nsanvu Village, Mukono District, Uganda

Every child deserves a desk, a book, and someone who believes they can.

We're a Christian-founded primary school giving vulnerable children in Nsanvu an education their families can afford. Our name comes from 2 Corinthians 1:20: all of God's promises are Yes and Amen.

Who we are

A few nursery children then. 140+ now.

Mrs. Betty Nsungwa Byabakama opened YAEC on July 5, 2007, because too many children in Nsanvu village were staying home. Their families couldn't pay school fees.

Most of our pupils come from single-parent homes or very poor families, and some are orphans. Here they get lessons, meals, practical skills, and people who know them by name.

Our full story

Your giving at work

Small gifts, big changes

Some of our classes used to meet in a timber shelter with a plastic sheet for a wall. Thanks to our supporters, we now have a new brick classroom block, a school farm and clean water for washing hands.

To everyone who has given, sponsored, visited or prayed for us: thank you. This is what you built.

What we need now

Three ways to help right now

Food for hungry children, books for our library and a better kitchen. Watch the clips and you'll see why.

Appeal

Food for our pupils

At mealtime the children line up at the serving tables with their cups and wait for their share. For many of them, it's hard to learn on an empty stomach.

Every gift, big or small, and every bit of help puts more food on those tables. More food means fuller cups, and children who can concentrate in class.

Appeal

Books for our library

Our whole library fits on one set of shelves. Our pupils love to read, but there aren't enough books to go round. We need storybooks and reading books for every age, from nursery to P7, plus reference books.

Got children's books to spare? We'd love them. Get in touch.

Appeal

A better kitchen

Every school meal is cooked over open wood fires in a small, dark room that fills with smoke. We want to build the children a better kitchen: brighter, cleaner, with better stoves and far less smoke for the cooks.

What we do

Four programs, one whole child

Classroom learning, hands-on skills, faith and fun.

Academics

Uganda's national curriculum: literacy, numeracy, science, social studies and Christian values.

Technology

Weekly computer lessons. Right now 60+ learners share 2 laptops and 1 desktop.

Vocational skills

Tailoring, poultry farming, piggery and bricklaying. Skills a young person can earn a living from.

Beyond the classroom

Bible study, choir and drama, football and netball, arts and crafts.

“I love coming to school because I learn how to read and we sing songs about Jesus.”

Grace, P2 pupil

“This school has given my child hope and purpose. I never thought she would go to school.”

Sarah, parent

“Teaching here is more than a job. It's a mission.”

In a pupil's own words

“I'm going to show you how to make this.”

One of our pupils shows us how he makes liquid soap, from the caustic soda and soda ash to mixing it all together. He's already made it at home, and his parents are happy with it.
