A Pupil Shows Us How to Make Liquid Soap

July 2026

We want children to leave YAEC with skills they can use straight away. Soap making is one of them.

We asked one of our pupils to show us what he's learned. Turn your sound on and hear it from him.

“I'm going to show you how to make this,” he says, and lays out what goes into it: caustic soda, soda ash and the other ingredients, mixed together.

Has he made it at home? Yes. Did it work? Yes. Were his parents happy with it? Yes, they were.

That's what we hope for from every practical lesson. Something learned at school gets taken home and used. Soap making sits alongside the tailoring, poultry, piggery and bricklaying our pupils also learn. You can read more on our programs page.
