Founded in Faith: The Story Behind Our Name

July 2025

Mrs. Betty Nsungwa Byabakama founded Yes and Amen Education Centre on 5 July 2007. Too many children in Nsanvu village were missing out on school because their families were poor, and she wanted to give them a place to learn. It started with a few nursery children. Today there are 136 pupils aged 3 to 12.

Most of them come from single-parent homes or very poor families, and some are orphans. For many, YAEC is the first place that told them their education mattered.

Where the name comes from

The name comes from 2 Corinthians 1:20:

“For no matter how many promises God has made, they are ‘Yes’ in Christ. And so through him the ‘Amen’ is spoken by us to the glory of God.”2 Corinthians 1:20

We believe God's promises are for every child who comes through our gate, and that's what the name is there to remind us of.

The school is led by Mrs. Byabakama and Co-Director Hannah Speller, with a team of teachers and volunteers who share the same faith and the same hope for these children.
